We’re near the north shore of the Upper Estuary, between Baie-Saint-Paul and Tadoussac. Visibility conditions are ideal. We recognize DL1688 in a herd of about ten individuals, including both adult and young belugas. They are quite close to the coast and are swimming one by one up the St. Lawrence River. At the end of the line, we recognize Pascolio, a matriarch of our photo-ID program. After an hour of observation, other animals join the group to form a larger herd of twenty or so individuals.
