SEPTEMBER 16, 2009

The morning of September 16, 2009, DL0058 was spotted with Louveteau in a herd of around sixty adult males between Tadoussac and Les Bergeronnes. During this encounter, we attempted to take a biopsy sample from Louveteau; we narrowly missed our mark. We will therefore have to wait to add a DNA sample to our collection from this companion of DL0058.
Manoeuvring a boat and collecting a biopsy from a moving target is no small task. With practice, we’ve managed to attain a success rate of over 80%. All the same, when we do miss our target, there’s always a feeling of disappointment on the boat. These data are invaluable and such opportunities don’t happen every day. There’s always next time!
